through inviting the audience to join the route of a pilgrimage around the city of Arnhem, fay poses the question of “how does a precarious body preserve itself?”

performed from sunrise to sunset, the audience is invited to make use of the map provided, walk towards any of the points and dwell, they also invited to join the performer during the pilgrimage, and leave whenever they feel

in the context of this research, the conditions that create a precarious body are investigated, as well as the ways they materially manifest themselves.

the action questions the value of time in the context of performing a durational ritual, the pilgrimage, and, additionally, asks other bodies to negotiate time and space in precarious conditions.

during Arnhem Uitnacht at Eusebiuskerk, fay's performance redefined the pulpit's purpose. Moving in an unending circle, Fay's voice echoed for 4 hours, filling the space with a nonstop speech ranging from the mundane and the profound.

fay's words, often perceived as a display of madness or a conversation with a higher power, posed an important question to the audience: who holds the privilege to voice concerns and receive care in society? does madness seek care within sacred spaces?

exotik neurotik

fay's culmination project for their research journey unfolds as a jester-like figure full of political connotations. this persona becomes a vessel through which the torrent of thoughts and emotions, often suppressed, find an outlet.

through an unbroken stream of speech, the performance becomes an inquiry into the complexities of the multifaceted process of becoming and achieving recognition and legitimacy within the Western framework.

BUT WE ARE A COLLECTIVE COMMUNITY, GIMME MORE.

as fay's exploration took shape during a residency at Forte Marghera, offering a response to the dynamics of collective living. through an intervention, the audience was invited to question: who bears the weight of hospitality? whose bodies are acknowledged for their labor? and what does an imposed ecology entail for those who had no choice?

through this immersive experience, fay invited participants to confront the complexities and responsibilities, both metaphorical and literal, of shared existence.

I CAN ACTUALLY SEE YOU

as part of fay's residency at Forte Marghera, they created a  response to the pervasive concept of surveillance within capitalist structures. anchored in their ongoing research of knowledge legitimacy, fay crafted an immersive experience that explored privacy's precarious standing under capitalism.

within a constructed confessional, audience members took their seats and took part of an ongoing anonymous chat. Juxtaposed with a nonstop written text fay wove a narrative around themes of youth navigating the internet and the inherent contradictions that accompany being both overly surveilled and inadequately protected.

from the cradle to the grave

in the "enfleshment" workshop led by dr. vanessa macaulay, fay created a transformative ritual space. participants entered a dimly lit studio to find three chairs facing each other, symbolizing a sacred triad. guided by music, they moved continuously, using water, dirt, and white clothing as ritual elements to honor departed loved ones. through choreographed steps and unspoken emotions, fay transformed the studio into a uniting collective experience of exploring grief.

my rotting corpse

in a 40-minute performance at het blauw veld,  fay lays upon dirt by the window, engaging in an unceasing stream of consciousness. starting with "an eye for an eye" and culminating in a powerful act of placing their face against the earth, the discourse traversed health concerns in the pandemic era, Amazon's allure, and the plight of 40,000 migrants lost or deceased in the mediterranean crossing.

fay invites the audience to think in relation to our collective body and question: what does justice mean when contemporary living tests the boundaries of human decency?

"نية"

in "نية" (Intention), fay performs the rituals of wudhu and tayammum for 1 hour and 30 minutes. wudhu symbolizes the intention to meet god, but the extended repetition of the ritual questions the concept of achieving absolute cleanliness for this encounter.

this performance is an exploration of ritual, symbolism, and human experience, inviting viewers to challenge constructs, embrace liminality, and reconsider purity in relation to the subject of the divine.

i read theory

an experimental performance that scrutinizes contemporary intellectualism. it questions who has access to theory, who regurgitates it, and its purpose. fay reads and regurgitates three philosophy pieces, interspersed with interruptions.

this performance challenges traditional knowledge consumption and highlights the personal and spiritual dimensions of intellectual engagement.

feed the hungry

in the performance “feed the hungry," fay intervenes in amsterdam's westerpark by being tied to a chair with a fruit bowl on their lap. over three hours, they raised questions about vulnerability in public spaces, community safety, and care. fay engages with the audience, discussing why they choose this vulnerable position and allowing them to feed fay.

this act highlights the mutual dependence within communities, shedding light on the potential risks and safety for different bodies in shared spaces. the performance transforms the park into a space for contemplation on these complex dynamics.
